I actually started as an artist and illustrator, long before I decided to take up commercial photography. Even during the years that I was playing music professionally, I found time to work on various artwork assignments and had numerous works published. I did a wide variety of commercial and editorial assignment illustration, but began to become primarily known for my documentary work of various military subjects. By the mid to late 1980's I had over twenty limited edition prints in circulation, had a book published, and did illustrations for the Time/Life series titled "The Vietnam Experience". Most of my work was either historical military aviation subject matter or related to the Vietnam War, primarily the largely (at that time) undocumented images of special operations soldiers such as Long Range Recon Teams, US Navy SEALs, US Army Special Forces, USMC Scout Snipers, and many others. I was a participant in the USAF Art Program which would bring in artists from the Society Of Illustrators to document military history, events and daily life for the Department of Defense permanent art collection. My originals may be found in The Pentagon, the USAF Museum, the USAF Academy and have been exhibited at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. By the process of assignments that tend to lead to similar assignments and related subjects rather than by any intent or planning on my part, by the late 1980's into the early '90's I was almost exclusively known as a military artist. I became a commercial photographer in the mid 1980's. I hope to again pursue my drawings and paintings one day but not limited to the military subject area. I am also very interested in Southwest historical art and Native American art.
To keep my website a bit less complex and primarily focused on my current photography and graphic design, I have a second website prepared for viewing my artwork. There are examples of the work described above, many of which are still available as prints and posters. The book "Visions of Vietnam" is long since sold out, but I now have a publisher for a larger, more comprehensive collection of my work which is due to be published in 2008, including many previously unpublished paintings, and perhaps some new pieces as well.
